Pre-conference Field Trip
Quaternary processes of erosion and accumulation on the middle polish Baltic coast
Date: 21-22 June 2010, departure: 21 June, 8.00 a.m.
Sites: cliffs in Podd±bie i Dębina, Łupawa outlet, Lakes Gardno and Łebsko, active dunes and beaches of Slovinski National Park

Programme: During the first day of the trip glacilacustrine deposits and glacial tills from the late Vistulian period will be presented. Moreover, several aspects of the Pleistocene ice sheet dynamic will be discussed on example of glacitectonic deformations. Finally, contemporary processes of cliff coast erosion in regard to its lithology and cliff front beach development will be shown. On the second day several aspects of lacustrine sedimentation will be exemplified by two lakes of various origin (Lebsko and Gardno Lake). Next, modern aeolian processes and their effects will be presented on a famous large active coastal dune field nearby Leba, where also processes of modern foredune formation and fossil soils will be shown.
Fee: 300 PLN - it includes accomodation for 20/21 and 21/22 June, meals, transport and entrance fees. Minimum number of participants: 20 persons.
